Julian helps the BPA membership understand and respond to the opportunities posed by carbon reduction, energy, data and apps alongside active travel, connected and electric vehicles.  He brings a wealth of experience from leadership and research roles to support partnerships across the public, private and academic sectors to improve the user experience of mobility and parking, and sustainable, innovative solutions to their common challenges. He co-hosts the popular BPA podcast ‘Beyond Parking’, and leads on a range of national initiatives including Park Active, which aims to provide a framework for the parking sector to enable active travel, tailored to local needs and supporting high streets.

Mobility is changing, and along with it parking. With the majority of local authorities declaring climate emergencies, and transport key to addressing this challenge, what is the role for parking? The needs of electric vehicles, delivery services, cyclists, pedestrians and even scooterists have to be considered as we navigate our way out of the pandemic to a greener, more healthy future. Panelists will bring a wealth of experience and thought leadership to help us understand how our sector needs to adapt to meet the challenges posed by the mobility revolution taking place in our towns and cities.

An introduction by Rupert Furness, Deputy Director, Head of Active Travel, DfT. We shine a light on the early adoption of Park Active and look towards the future, explaining to operators how to get involved in this timely initiative. This will be followed by a series of tangible takeaways where commercial suppliers are given the opportunity to present for five minutes on: ‘what solution can you provide to help the parking sector support active travel’.
